The Rules of Disarming
Melees
Shoot to disarm if the melee has been used to murder or harm an officer
Shoot to disarm if you have validly initiated and the criminal attacks or attempts to murder a civilian
Never shoot to disarm if the melee hasn't been used in an offensive way
Shoot to disarm if the criminal has Attempted to kill a police officer and has got into a car
Phase 1
Shoot to disarm if the Phase 1 has been used to murder or harm an officer
Shoot to disarm if you have validly initiated and the criminal shoots and attempts to murder a civilian
Shoot to disarm if the criminal has shot at police and has got into a car
Never shoot to disarm if the phase 1 hasn't been used in an offensive way
Phase 2
Shoot to disarm if the Phase 2 has been used to murder or harm an officer
Shoot to disarm if you have validly initiated and the criminal shoots and attempts to murder a civilian
Shoot to disarm if the criminal has shot at police and has got into a vehicle
Never shoot to disarm if the phase 2 hasn`t been discharged at all
Phase 3
Shoot to disarm when in an active gunfight with officers
Shoot to disarm after the suspect has been in a gunfight with officers, even if they proceed to get into a vehicle
Shoot to disarm if the suspect turns and aims towards an officer after initiation has been made
Shoot to disarm if there is immediate threat to life and initiation has been made by an officer (killing civilians)
Never shoot to disarm if the phase 3 has not been discharged at all
Disarming a suspect running away failing to value their life
If a suspect is failing to value their life you must give 3 warnings through the duration of 15 seconds, if they fail to comply with the warnings by not giving themselves up then you can shoot to disarm. The suspect must have their weapon out in their hands to carry out the disarming of the suspect if they proceed to not value their life. If the firearm has been holstered however initiation has been made, you must attempt to taser the suspect.
Disarming a suspect pulling out a weapon
If clear instructions are made towards the suspect for example “Armed Police hands up now, if you reach for the gun, you will be shot” and they decide to unholstered their firearms then you may shoot to disarm the suspect.
Firearm Stand Offs
Initiate validly and give the suspect 2 warning over a duration of 7 seconds and if they do not surrender, shoot to disarm.
Police Station Guidelines
Negotiations at a police station are to not be carried out.
